A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country struggling with persistent crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on a Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the forty-year-old entertainer was accosted by a trio of assailants, with one began shooting at him before escaping on foot.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, police said.

How It Happened

Law enforcement revealed that Stock was targeted as he was departing from a building near the Carlton Centre.

He had devoted time at the building managing the installation of security systems, which had been reportedly taken over by unknown people, it was reported.

"The report indicates the man was confronted by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they began shooting at him before escaping on foot," a police statement said.

CCTV footage reportedly depicted a man with dreadlocks and wearing what appeared to be a protective services outfit firing shots on Stock before making his escape.

The DJ attempted to flee after he was wounded but fell down on the opposite side of the road.

Police added that Stock had an gun that was not fired and nothing was taken during the incident.

Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were discovered at the scene.

Officials are asking anyone who saw the event who may have witnessed the attack to come forward.

"Our information indicates they traveled on foot after the attack, and officers have been tracking them to find their destination," stated a police chief.

Family and Public Reaction

His family member, Nicole Stock, expressed the relatives are devastated to process his death.

"Words fail me. I cannot express the pain," she stated.
