The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Critical Role Track

The Mighty Nein, the newest animated series by the beloved role-playing group, revealed a new introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite group of outcasts, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and taking names, while also hinting at several agonizing personal histories for key figures such as Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

Overall, the intro appears stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was lost in the music selection.

The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song created by artist Colm McGuinness. It's a track originating from the soundtrack album of that title, the second one released by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a great nostalgic choice, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its presence.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro fails to capture the excitement and excitement that was part of the second campaign's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", written by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's intro with "the new song" doesn't strike the right notes for me. It's a grand piece of music, but based on my understanding of the group, I feel that its tone is a little off.

Of course, Critical Role has already said that the series will have a few changes and variations from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its intro appears as among these.

The Mighty Nein will be released on Prime Video from November 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to learn about the characters of the second series, the actual play are available on the audio platform and the video site.
